Setting up text messaging: completing your SMS registration

How to complete the SMS onboarding wizard from your Parting Pro invite, what information to have ready, and what happens after you submit. Before any business can text customers from a local number in the US, the phone carriers need to know who's sending

Written by Hillary Scalmanini

1. Before you start

Gather these first. The carriers are strict, and most delays come from details that don't match official records.

What you'll need

Tips

Legal business name

Exactly as it appears on your IRS/EIN paperwork. Not a nickname or DBA

EIN (Tax ID)

Format XX-XXXXXXX. Sole proprietors without an EIN can skip this

Business structure

For example, LLC, Corporation, Partnership, or Non-profit

Business website

Must be a live, working website

Business address

Your physical or mailing address in the US

Authorized representative

Name, job title, position, email, and phone number for someone who can act on behalf of the business

Area code

The area code most common where your families live

2. Open your invite

You'll get an email from Parting Pro inviting you to set up text messaging. Click the link in the email to open the SMS onboarding wizard.

The first page explains what the registration is for and what you'll need. When you're ready, start the application.

Good to know: your progress is saved as you go. If you need to step away or look something up, you can come back to the link and pick up right where you left off!

3. Enter your business information

Choose the option that describes your business. The fields you see will change based on your choice.

Business type

Choose this if...

Business with EIN

You're an LLC, Corporation, Partnership, Non-profit, or Co-operative (most funeral homes)

Sole Proprietor

You operate as an individual and don't have an EIN

Publicly Traded

Your company has a stock ticker. You'll also enter your stock exchange and ticker symbol

Then fill in your legal business name, business structure, EIN, and website.

4. Enter your business address

Add your street address, suite or unit (optional), city, state, and ZIP code.

5. Add your authorized representative

This is the person who can act on behalf of your business. The carriers may reach out to them to verify the registration, so use someone who will be easy to reach.

Enter their first and last name, job title, position, email, and phone number. A business email address works best.

Sole proprietors: you'll also enter a mobile number that can receive and reply to texts. You'll need it after approval (see section 8).

6. Choose your phone number

Search for an available local number by area code, city, or ZIP code, then pick the one you like. This is the number families will see when you text them.

Tip: pick an area code from the community you serve. Families are more likely to recognize a local number, and it's less likely to be flagged as spam.

7. Review and submit

You'll see a summary of everything you entered. Use the edit link next to any section to make changes. When everything looks right, confirm that the information is accurate and that you're authorized to register the business, then submit.

8. What happens after you submit

You'll see a status screen, and we'll email you as your application moves along. Carrier review usually takes 1 to 3 weeks.

FAQ

  • Do I need a Parting Pro login to complete this? Nope! The link in your invite email takes you straight to the wizard.

  • Can someone else at my funeral home fill this out? Yes, as long as they're authorized to act on behalf of the business. Just let our team know who should receive the invite.

  • Does approval mean I can start texting families right away? Almost! Approval means your registration and phone number are ready. Our team will reach out when texting is ready to turn on for your funeral home.

  • My application was rejected. What now? Don't worry, this usually means a detail didn't match official records (often the legal business name or EIN). Check the reason on your status screen, correct it, and resubmit. If you're stuck, reach out to our support team and we'll help.

  • I'm a sole proprietor and missed the YES text. What should I do? Reach out to our support team and we can have it sent again.
